    Bangladesh is a country with a population of 160 million and an area of 144,000 square kilometers. It is the 4th largest Muslim populated country after Indonesia, Pakistan, and India. Literacy rate in Bangladesh is 65%. Since it was under British rule for 200 years, English is not an unknown language in Bangladesh. City dwellers can more or less understand and speak English.

     

    Bangladesh is the fastest growing country in economy and the media sector is also developing rapidly, as TV, Radio and internet are the only means of communication and home entertainment.

     

    Satellite TV was introduced in Bangladesh in the 1990s. Now there are more than 120 including 20 international news channels airing their programs through cable operators. At present 75% of the population are covered by Satellite TV and there are around 50 million cable homes currently covered by around 6000 cable operators throughout the country. The operators are mainly operating through the Digital platform. The yearly growth of TV homes is of around 15% to 20% per year.

     

    Channel distribution is a very big issue for the TV channels which is the first step of all, because if the channels cannot be reached at the rooms of the viewers, whatever catchy program is there it will never get visibility growth.

     

    As we know at present days there are different ways of distribution of channels through different means. One is through the Cable operators and the other is D2H which is also through particular agents. These means of carriage have its own cost which varies from country to country. Though there has been a lot of development in viewing TV through internet but it has a very limited access as it need internet connection which is yet to be reached at mass level viewers.
